Reviews

We love to hear what people think of our lodge, good or in need of improvement.  Here are a few of our reviews from previous visitors.

We have now stayed in two of the Thurston's lodges on 3 separate visits and have never been disappointed. The properties are always immaculately presented, with absolutely every need catered for. Their meet & greet team, Lucy & Neil are on hand to answer any questions and are only a phone call away if one encounters problems.
Our only problem in recommendation is that it might clash with our next booking!

Tips for other travellers:
South Cerney is a 5 minute drive away where there is a choice of 3 pubs, a chippy, an Indian and a Chinese take away, together with a pharmacy, doctors surgery and Co Op mini supermarket.
Cirencester town is a 15 minute drive where all needs are catered for.
Loads to do on the lakes plus good walks, interesting Cotswold villages and the Thames pathway.

William & Lynette Broadhurst,

Our 3rd stay at it does not disappoint. Beautiful houses and everything you need it’s home from home.

Tips for other travellers - lots of lovely walks with the dogs, bike riding and fishing on your doorstep.

Julie Labron,

Absolutely loved our stay. We had everything we needed and more. Great location and really helpful staff

Vicky Whiteman,

This is the second stay on the water park. Tge first time we stayed at Windrush (where we got engaged) and this time we stayed at waters edge.. absolutely amazing places. perfect for a chilled out shirt break. beautiful views, nice and quiet. decor is to a high standard, clean, fresh and have everything you need. All the team are lovely and we have already booked again for October! Thanks again for having us!

zoe,

Where to start!? This whole trip from booking to leaving was just great! Joanne was so efficient and quick with communication throughout and provided excellent easy directions to follow. On arrival we were greated with flowers, cake, prosecco and milk for hot drinks and it was really well thought out. The lodge was beautiful and the views were just stunning! The price we paid to stay at the lodge is more than reasonable as the whole lodge is well equipped, heating is easy to control and the smart tv allows for you to watch prity much anything!
We also really appreciated the suggested places to visit and places we could eat. You can see everything is well thought out!
Thank you for an amazing stay, i will be visiting again!

Renu Verma,

My second fabulous stay at Windrush. Homely, clean, very well equipped, comfy beds, and fluffy towels and robes! The Kayak was great fun.

Karen Wilson,

We were a family of 8 plus two little dogs, ages 88 to 8, who all had the most amazing time at this beautiful home.
Anything you could ever need was provided, it was spotless and a complete home from home.
Communication from the start was immediate and incredibly helpful.
We would love to go again, seriously the nicest place we have ever rented. Thank you
Tips for other travellers
We went for a half day spa experience at the de Vere Cotswold
Priced at £50 each, you could choose a treatment and use all the facilities. The venue, service and massages were wonderful, in fact it all felt incredibly special and actually better than our local Champneys!!

Sandra Warden,

Our stay was nothing short of perfect. From soft furnishings to the hot tub, everything was finished to the highest of standards.

Fresh flowers, cake and a bottle of prosecco on arrival was a fantastic touch.

I can't recommend this place enough, we have already booked to go back in June.

Callum Perry,

I had a wonderful 2 months stay , all my visitors loved staying at the lodge

Valerie Morgan-Doyle,

Fantastic 2 night stay. We are five ladies who holiday together annually , this was a sneaky little UK one and it did not disappoint. The weather was amazing, so enjoying the decking overlooking the lake in Feb was fantastic. Everything was spotlessly clean and every single thing has been thought about. The beds were incredibly comfortable and smelt of washing powder, always a lovely smell. Alexa gave us hours of fun doing 80's pop quiz. Lucy and her husband were great and the fizz, cake, flowers and milk are a lovely touch. We'd absolutely return without hesitation.

Tips for other travellers
We chose one of the walking routes from the guides. We left at 10.30am along the old canal, ate a late lunch in the beer garden at The Royal Oak in South Cerney which i would highly recommend, we then took our own route back through fields and tracks and arrived home at 4.30pm .. Perfect way to spend a Saturday.

Karen Wilson,

Amazing place everything was thought about and taken care of. We really didn’t want to go home

Sadie Panter,

Windrush was fabulous, a high specification house with all the modern comforts set in a beautiful location. Everything was made easy with directions, welcome arrangements and some personal touches such as a nice cake. The beds were comfortable and the house was immaculate. The grounds have some great amenities for families and it’s nice walking areas. Jo and Barry have thought of everything to make the stay enjoyable. Will definitely book again, thank you Michelle, Paul and Curtis

Michelle Norton,

Home from home - beautiful surroundings and so relaxing.
Thank you for the attention to detail and providing everything you could possibly think of - our 5th visit to your properties and we will visit again.

Karen Jeffries,

This was our second stay at one of Jo and Barry's lodges. Every care has been taken to ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay, with so many extra special touches.
Lovely furnishings, beautiful linen, comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, welcome prosecco and cake, hot tub with pool towels, robes and slippers, towels and treats for our dogs, state of the art TV and media system, wifi, lakeside location. . . . .I could go on!
We are booking again.

Tips for other travellers:
Eternal therapies visiting spa service arranged via Jo: fabulous.
Royal Oak pub in the village, within walking distance and a fantastic "proper" pub with real ales, great wine list and delicious food.
Crickley Hill and Cirencester Park fabulous walks and views.

Dawn O'Brien,

We had an amazing time in Kingfisher lodge. Every room was decorated to a high standard and it had plenty of extras which we loved like the Sonos music system and Alexa. Waking up to the lake view was lovely. It was great having things already in the lodge like dishwasher tablets and coffee pods already there for you to use. We only forgot to bring cooking oil. The cake, milk, Prosecco and flowers was such a lovely touch on arrival. It is great to find such a luxury loge which is pet friendly. Our Labrador Indie loved her stay too and felt right at home. We loved that we could bring her with us as she is part of our family. We would 100% recommend the lodge to any couple/family who were thinking about booking.

Tips for other travellers:
The lodge can be difficult to initially find and we had to phone Lucy to talk us through the directions. We walked to the White Hart Inn in Ashton Keynes from the lodge which took about an hour. You would need walking boots as it did get muddy in places. Lovely food, atmosphere and Indie got her own biscuits on arrival. We also visited Jennies Kitchen which you can also walk to. Dogs are given treats and get their own blanket to lay on. Lots of homemade cakes and other goodies. Food was lovely and I imagine sitting in the garden in the nicer weather would be very relaxing.

Emily Slevin,

We had an amazing 4 night stay with 6 adults, 2 dogs and a baby (plenty of room!). The lodge is stylish, modern and luxurious and the owners have thought of everything. There is an extensive folder with lots of recommendations of places to go/eat. We would love to stay here again!

Matthew (via Airbnb),

Stayed here over new year and was really pleased from the moment of arrival, very modern and stylish, great technology! Everything you need and more amend really clean with great added touches here and there. Hot tub was lush and cleaned during stay! The ability to have a therapist visit the house is great and was very relaxing. Thanks for making our stay so perfect (not forgetting the amazing views and walks), we have already booked for Christmas 2019 and can't wait.

Kerri Richards,

The best place we have ever stayed - as soon as you walked in you are taken aback at how gorgeous it is. Christmas music and candles were lit as we arrived, making it feel so cosy - cannot recommend enough. A gorgeous setting an hot tub just top it off. Thanks for an amazing stay!

Emma (via Airbnb),

Absolutely stunning house. Private and totally luxury. I stayed here before my wedding at nearby Cripps Barn and cannot recommend highly enough. Spotlessly clean, hot tub warm, clear directions and contact throughout. The pictures do not do it justice! AMAZING!

Elizabeth (via Airbnb),

We came here for my girlfriend's 30th. We arrived and the xmas decorations and music were brilliant. Some really thoughtful birthday touches and a xmas card were really appreciated. An amazing space with incredible views. We spent the whole 3 days in the apartment with occasional trips out which were very easy to get to. Fantastic location. The best air bnb I have ever stayed in. plan to return in the summer. Thanks so much for everything!!

Dale (via Airbnb),

We had a lovely pre-christmas stay with three generations of family and a dog! The house was beautiful and all the extra touches very thoughtful (had mince pies provided). Really peaceful area and great to sit in the hot tub in the evenings when is wasn't raining.

Lorna (via Airbnb),

Barry & Jo's place was absolutely perfect for a weekend getaway with friends in The Cotswolds. The house is stunning with floor to ceiling windows, letting in a lot of light in the daytime and a lovely view of the lake. They had a Christmas tree which was a nice surprise. The beds were all comfortable with nice linen. The home is set in a beautiful water park with enough distance between each of the houses to feel like you have real privacy. We visited a few of the local restaurants and the food was great! I'd definitely recommend to anyone wanting to getaway for a few days.

Kelly (via Airbnb),

I thoroughly recommend staying at this lovely property. The photos do not do it justice and we would book again, and for longer. We booked to stay as a present for my Dads 70th birthday; we arrived to a bottle of prosecco in the fridge, mince pies and shortbread on the counter as well as homemade dog treats for our dog! The Christmas tree and decorations got us feeling festive and we had a wonderful stay. There was a book with places to eat and places to go which was handy. We took our dog to the Cotswolds Wildlife Centre, was a great day out for us all. We also had a walk around Burford and Bourton on the Water, which had lovely little shops (a lot of which were dog friendly) Thank you for a lovely stay

Clare (via Airbnb),

Water’s Edge is an amazing property in a great location. Fabulous facilities, the hot tub being a favourite amongst us all. Very relaxing & a lovely view to wake up to.

Karen (via Airbnb),

A beautiful house with so much to do indoors and outdoors! Barry, Jo and Lucy were outstanding from the start, providing all the information and help we needed, along with added special touches for my mum's birthday which was so kind. We loved our stay in the house with all its amenities and beautiful scenery from the windows and balconies. We had a good laugh with Alexa during our nights in! The location is perfect for walking and exploring gorgeous local villages and countryside. Our only complaint is that our stay wasn't long enough!! Would highly recommend and we would love to come back.

Rebecca (via Airbnb),

We had a wonderful stay at Windrush which felt like a home straight away rather than a holiday let. Location was fantastic with plenty of walks for the dogs. The weather was also very kind to us.

Carol Gregory,

Fantastic property, fantastic location, fantastic facilities.
In fact, nothing negative to say. LOVE IT

William Broadhurst,

There was a WOW feeling as we entered the house, felt very welcomed and the view outside balcony was serene. It was just what we wanted. We all wished we could stay longer.

Tips for other travellers - There is plenty to do around, ideal stay would be for 4/5 nights .Kids enjoyed water sports including canoeing and rowing boats and inflatable balloon.

Seema Gudivada,

Fabulous location, very peaceful & tranquil. Great water sport options for all ages. Our teenage grandchildren were in seventh heaven with so many different sports activities on offer.
We will certainly be coming back as our grandchildren have already told us to book up for next year!
Our accommodation on Windrush was all and more than we expected. The owners could not have been more a welcoming and helpful.
We have already spoken to family and friends about our stay which should result in some of them booking their own stay.

William Broadhurst,

The kingfisher is absolutely stunning, beautiful decor, clean and high specification for entertainment with Alexa, sonos, sky and nests. The lodge was so relaxing, on the beautiful waters edge with lots of fabulous wildlife, especially beautiful from the hot tub. The lodge has everything you could wish for and is extremely well equipped! The prime location is excellent for all local amenities such as the Cotswolds water park and beach and lots of water sports on the surrounding lakes. We cannot recommend this lodge highly enough it is exceptional in quality and we will definitely be returning. We had 2 eight year olds who said it was the best holiday ever! Lots to do and can’t wait to return.

Michelle Norton,

Absolutely beautiful place to stay and even better that we could bring our dogs with us. We had a fabulous few days here and will definitely be returning again soon!

Julian Mears,

Lovely stay, so relaxing with very comfy beds. Well equipped, clean and cosy. Enjoyed everything about the weeks break we had and we were sorry to leave. (Huge bonus being there throughout the heatwave too!)
We hope to return next year.

Tips for other travellers - Lovely walk along the Thames and drink at the Riverside in Lechlade, dog was made very welcome. Also although dog was on long lead in the water park, the recreation ground in South Cerney was a smashing place for a play and run off lead. The Brasserie at Spring Lake was really good along with the other local eateries.
So much to explore.

Chrystine Wells,

Kingfisher Lodge was in a superb location overlooking the lake with amazing views. The attention to detail and decor within the property was 5* with the owners adding little extra touches which only made the stay even more relaxing. The kitchen was really well stocked with regard to plates/bowls etc so was lovely to self cater - even plastic glasses to use when you were in the hot tub which was great! Easy to find and located within a beautiful area with so much to see and do. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough!

Tips for other travellers
Bibury is a beautiful village nearby and
Barnsley House Hotel was amazing for a nice dinner if you want to eat out. We also visited the Elemental Sculpture Park which was amazing and well worth a visit and a cup of tea :-)

Lynne Packham,

Perfect location looking across the lake especially if you're in the hot tub. Eat alfresco if the weather is good and just enjoy the view. The owners Jo and Barry make everything so easy and set high standards for your stay. Nothing is too much trouble! Lovely touch on your arrival is that there is a bottle of bubbly, a delicious cake, fresh flowers and speciality doggy biscuits. It doesn't get any better than that. Enjoy!
There are several local pubs nearby, all serving good food and very dog friendly. Places of interest are many and varied. Just hop in the car and see where it takes you. One of our favourites was Bourton on the water. Afternoon tea or just a sandwich. There are plenty to choose from.

Pauline Brady,

We've stayed at Windrush before and given 5 stars which meant that we couldn't say anything needed improving. Yet when we arrived this time we found Jo and Barry have made improvements ! Huge curved TV, Alexa, music connection to hot tub- all on top of the fantastic facilities already offered. Really can't fault this house at all, a luxury home in a fantastic location, really friendly housekeeping and great communication from owners. Already booked for next visit.
Breakfast at Relish at the Cotswold Outdoor Centre is excellent !

Pauline Kilbourn,

Thank you for such an AMAZING stay at the lodge. We went with our 4 boys and 2 dogs and it was absolutely amazing. The lodge is utterly beautiful and the extra touches were so special. I cannot recommend this place enough! We cannot wait to return. Thank you xxx

Zoe Williams,

Stunning location and view with 5* facilities. Very peaceful with superb walks and lots of lovely pubs around that serve wonderful food.
Would recommend the Red Lion at Castle Eaton for food. Stunning riverbank location and friendly landlady

Dawn Martin,

Lovely place very clean everything provided in the house that you could possibly need. Lovely and informative greeting from host Lucy. Would definitely recommend anyone to stay here.
The two pubs in South Cerney the Elliot and George both very welcoming and food and service very good dogs welcome

Sue Thompson, Wolverhampton,

We had a brilliant time, loads to entertain us with full package tv and many games in addition to the wonderful hot tub. Husband was delighted to be able to watch the football. Love the decor and bedrooms were of a very high standard together with the fully equipped kitchen and downstairs living space were spectacular. Thanks for the gifts that were left, they were very well appreciated. Thanks Jo and Barry, we will definately be back and would recommend highly to others

Sarah Holmes,

An absolute home from home in stunning surroundings. Perfect for us just wanting to get away from everything for a few days. The house is beautiful and everything you can possibly think of is provided.
We will certainly be coming back as often as we can!

Nicki Long,

Jo and Barry have thought of everything. The cottage is fully equipped and Alexa was good fun. The hot tub was a great bonus with views of the lake, we has snow which was very picturesque.

Tips for other travellers
Went to Cotswold Wildlife Park which was 30 minutes drive and would highly recommend. Lovely gardens, animals, train ride and outdoor play area.
Rove farm was also a hit with my 4 year old. Farm animals, tractor ride, large indoor play area and outdoor play area. Also an opportunity to feed the animals.

Vicki Wain,

This was the most amazing lodge we have ever stayed in. We stayed in the Waters edge for our 10 year anniversary- it was out of this world. So peaceful and tranquil. Views amazing and the technology was mind blowing. As my boyfriend says.. it's home from home but better . Loved the little touches of handmade organic dog treats for our dogs and a bottle of prosecco, fresh cake and fresh flowers. Thank you to Jo, Barry and Lucy who were so helpful when we got snowed in and our tesco delivery cancelled due to the extreme snow conditions. Will deffinately stay again and i will be recommending

Nicki Spencer,

Great house, equipped with everything plus more! Amazing hot tub with views across the lake. Full sky/Spotify/ Alexa (who is now my new best friend!) packages and dog friendly. Lovely touches of cake and bubbles upon arrival and some home baked dog treats too - would definitely return!

Emily Edwards,

We had a fantastic weekend in both houses. we were extremely impressed with how well resourced both houses were. You have literally thought of everything and we were also very impressed with the high level of technology you had such as the alexas, sky box, sonos speakers and the coffee machine. The place was spotless when we arrived and Lucy was very helpful in assisting us with anything we needed. Hot tubs were fantastic and we had a brilliant time. We will be back.

Loze Tranter,

Beautiful property with everything you could want and more. We had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend staying here. Jo was very easy to deal with and everything went smoothly and the property was very easy to find. Thank you Barry and Jo.

Jo Denman,

When we arrived Lucy was there to meet us. She showed us around and how to use everything. The house was spotless. We are amazed by the amount of things that we had at the house to use such as alexa, sonos and sky movies/3d TV. The house was more than big enough for 6 of us and 3 dogs. The location was so pretty right by the lake and the view from the hot tub was fantastic late afternoon watching the sunset. We would recommend this place to anyone to stay and will definitely be back!!
Tips for other travellers
Elliot arms very dog friendly and nice walk. We ate at the old boathouse across the road one evening and very nice meal. Cirencester Iso nice to have a walk around and a gander in the shops. Had a takeaway from the tandoori in South Cerney and would highly recommend.

J Jones,

My friend and I booked to stay for a 3 night girly weekend get together and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The house itself is a beautiful home, gorgeously decorated, with everything you could possibly wish for! Kitchen is so well equipped, with a Nespresso machine, every utensil and gadget you could ever need. Fabulous! The bedrooms are a lovely size and offer stunning views across the lake and estate, beds are wonderfully comfy too! Bathrooms are spot on, lovely toiletries....all paraben& SLS free for those who care. When we arrived we were greeted with a bottle of prosecco and a deliciously moist chocolate cake (even between the 2 of us over 3 days we only managed to eat half of It!) As well as some lovely flowers in the lounge. A fab little welcome! The amount of entertainment and things to do, laid on in the house was unprecedented for me...sky tv, film and sports channels, loads of decent dvds, board games galore, a Sonos sound system throughout the house and Alexa, I may need to get one of my own! We ate at the pub across the road next to the DeVere, menu was limited but we both had a decent steak. We also had Sunday lunch at The Eliot Arms, which did a carvery, it was decent enough, choice of 3meats and a few different vegetables etc...good value as was under a tenner each. We did quite a bit of rambling around the lakes and followed a fab walk around the disused canals and railways...head toward the Visitors Centre just up from the DeVere to find it. You can walk to the Eliot Arms via this ramble too. Lots of very friendly residents walking their dogs along the way, some happy to point us in the right direction too. The hot tub was great, even though it was freezing cold outside, the hot tub worked a treat. I would definitely recommend a little dip! There's a Tesco about 10mins down the road, with a Beefeater and McDonald's next to it for anyone needing their fix. All in all, we had an absolutely wonderful time, it definitely felt like home away from home. I will be booking to return and may even take the husband next time! Thanks Jo and Barry! You are definitely the hosts with the most 😊

Melissa,

Fantastic accomodation, suitable for 6 people comfortably and 2 dogs. Jo and Barry are amazing hosts and are always there on hand via text if needed. Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in a high end holiday let that meets every home comfort possible

Tips for other travellers
Blenheim Palace National trust, an hours drive away but worth it as the grounds are amazing

The White Bear pub in Cirencester(dog friendly/good food)

Julie Kelly,

We stayed at Waters Edge this December, during the heavy snowfall! It is by far the nicest self-catering place we have stayed in. Beautiful setting, right on the edge of the lake, with a veranda and balcony complete with table and chairs and hot tub. The house is spectacular - beautiful design with lots of space and fantastic decor and equipment. Jo and Barry have thought of everything - treats on arrival, towel for the dog, DVDs, easy to use sound system and every TV channel possible on a huge HD TV. It all works brilliantly. It is quiet and peaceful, you really feel as if you are on the lake, yet we walked to the Visitor Centre in 15 minutes and on to South Cerney in an hour or so. Lots of pubs and restaurants and lovely villages are close by - you are really spoilt for choice. Walking is fantastic - so many footpaths to choose from you can create your own walk. All in all we cannot recommend Waters Edge highly enough - great location, great property and great owners - we can't wait to go again!

Mark Newbold,

This is an amazing house in an amazing location. The house is furnished to a high standard with some excellent extras such as Sonos audio system.

Hot Tub over looks the lake, perfect spot for relaxing.
Jo was fantastic, great comms, very responsive and looked after us.
Highly recommend

David Went,

Stunning home with breathtaking views over the lake. Spacious throughout, tastefully decorated and with every home comfort required, including a fabulous hot tub! Everything had been so well thought of from initial communication, the welcome on arrival, the cake and prosecco and even the added extra touches and welcome for our dog, including tasty home baked treats. We would love to return to drink in that view once again! Thank you Jo and Barry.

Annie Smith,

Very friendly and quick reply’s to any questions. Property is perfect everything you need and more the hot tub was amazing, felt very relaxed from the start. We truly loved our stay at the property. And hope to go back. I will definitely recommend a visit.
Tips for other travellers
Lots of tips in the welcome pack.

L Fitzpatrick,

We have just come back from our 4 nights break. It was so relaxing and a lovely house. Great sized bedrooms all with ensuites, very clean and fresh. Lovely welcome bottle of prosecco and a home made cake. We could have stayed for longer. I would love to return in the summer to use the hot tub and appreciate the scenery even more.

Michelle Abrahams,

This is just a perfect place to do anything you want to. Our husbands/partners went windsurfing/biking/golf etc and us ladies went to the local spa with treatments organised by Jo and a couple of trips out to local villages
The house is perfect, you just need to turn up with your clothes as Jo and Barry have thought of everything else. It's home from home and extremely comfortable.
Thank you we will return.

Serena Cunningham,

Amazing place. We loved our stay mid week this week. Just myself, partner and our cockapoo. Had great few days just relaxing. The hot tub is fantastic, great walks and lots t see. Highly recommend.

Emma Somers,

Beautiful house in a beautiful location, equipped with everything you need and more. Lovely cotswold villages to visit, great walks and an amazing hot tub to relax in when you return . A real gem, already booked a return visit !

Pauline Kilbourn,

Can't recommend this place enough. The accommodation was very good and had everything you needed. It was very homely and the staff were all very helpful and welcoming. The surroundings were very beautiful and very peaceful. The hot tub was a great way to relax. Just to put the cherry on the cake we got engaged! Perfect holiday

zoe ,

This is our second time visiting the retreat and we just absolutely love it. The high standards of cleaning and facilities are outstanding. The little unexpected gifts on arrival are such a lovely and thoughtful touch.
We were lucky to have such nice weather and sitting outside lapping up the peaceful surroundings was just what we needed. Our dog is in love with the treats she gets on arrival and even she loves the break away.
We will be back again.

Sadie ,

Beautiful house and setting, plenty of things to do! We will be staying again next year! Jo was lovely and made sure we all had a comfortable stay, even left my Dad a little Birthday Cake! I'd highly recommend to anyone xx

Ellie Jeffries,

This house was perfect for us. 4 adults, 2 children, 2 dogs! It was welcoming, clean, modern and the hot tub was an added bonus. Kitchen and bathrooms were fully equipped too. We visited lots of villages and pubs in the surrounding areas, all were gorgeous. We had two dogs with us and the house worked for them too, with a lovely big decked area and plenty of outside space. I will definitely be going back! Would highly recommend!
Tips for other travellers
Masons Pub is a must. Fantastic service and food.
Cirencester is gorgeous. Lots to do and see.
Bourton On the water was my favourite Village. You could spend a day there visiting the model village, car museum, maze, bird sanctuary and have afternoon tea. we also visited the Cotswolds Wildlife Park, which was fab.

Vicki Game,

Just returned from a fantastic retreat for a few days at this beautiful holiday home. Everything was catered for, hot tub was very clean and well maintained, the rooms were immaculate and the views wonderful. Thank you Jo and Barry for letting us experience your wonderful retreat. 5*

Angie Wallace,

We have just come back from a wonderful weekend here - the house was beautiful and we felt relaxed and welcome straight away! Everything you could think of is provided and there is plenty to do both in and around the home and of course out and about in the Cotswolds. We brought our Cockerpoo with us and he had a great time too! We made good use of the hot tub and came away feeling relaxed and recharged - thank you!!

Heather Preston,

We had a lovely, relaxing stay at Jo and Barry's beautiful home which was exactly as advertised. The beds were very comfortable and it was a very peaceful location so we enjoyed undisturbed sleep. The lovely touches of cake, biscuits, Prosecco and even biscuits for our dogs made us feel very welcome and a lovely surprise. Every conceivable gadget you could possibly need had been thought of and was there. The sky tv package, dvd collection and games were an excellent touch for those days when the weather is bad or you just want to stay in and relax. The Wi-Fi was excellent too as it meant we could take our laptop. It was great for us with having 2 dogs as we could walk straight out onto the grass from the veranda to walk them around the lake and there was a dog bin nearby. The house is very bright and airy with wonderful views over the lake. There is full time security so it felt a very safe place to stay. It is the first time we have gone on holiday with our dogs where the accommodation and views have been exactly as described. It is a credit to Jo and Barry and we hope to return again in the future.

Julie Cook,

I have just returned from a four night stay with a friend and our two dogs in this wonderful house. It was a delight to find that the house was as lovely as it looked in the photos and that all the great reviews were true. Jo and Barry have thought of everything and Kriss from the hosting service was very helpful and made sure that our stay was perfect.
With wonderful walks from the door and plenty of beautiful towns and villages to visit close by, we were spoilt for choice on how to fill our days especially as it was difficult to drag ourselves away from the tranquil setting of the house and grounds.
We will certainly be returning and my only hesitation in recommending it so highly is that I fear it will be difficult to get booked in in future as it will be so popular.

Marie Cheek,

What a fabulous holiday home this is in and around a beautiful lake setting, which our 2 Border Terriers loved walking around each morning. The setting around the lake was stunning. The house has everything you could ask for and we were spoilt by warm sunshine during our stay and enjoyed having a BBQ, sitting out all the time, dogs wandering around the decking and watching the ducks and had a daily dip in the hot tub with the sun rays beating down on us. The house is furnished beautifully, with plenty of towels, towelling robes, treats, books, games and DVDs. The sound system around the house was amazing along with asking 'Alexa' for some help and assistance! There are plenty of things to do close by or just a short drive away.and we enjoyed our breakfast out at the Lakeside Brasserie. This is a true gem and a credit to Jo and Barry the owners - and thanks for my birthday cake and message.

Sue Rose,

Just got back from a 4 day break and can highly recommended it. Lovely house in a stunning location. 4 adults, 3 Dachshunds and a 9 month old and everything was catered for. Had a high chair and cot left out for our little boy which was a huge help and doggie treats, dog towels and a hose for washing our pooches down. They loved running round the decking and it was great to know they were secure!
We arrived to find a huge victoria sponge ( omg....yum! ) and a bottle of prosecco and flowers in every room ... Lovely touch.
We never got to sample the hot tub sadly as the British weather was a complete let down but with loads of games, sky movies and a great selection of dvds we were kept entertained. Had the weather been nicer there's a great bbq and plenty of outside seating....
We did manage to get out and do some walks however and found a couple of places to let the dogs run off the lead ( thanks to Jo and Barry's guide book ! ) which they loved.
The whole house is extremely comfortable, plenty of towels, lovely toiletries, bath robes etc... a great deal of thought has been put into this house and we definitely hope to return .... Many Thanks ... Julie x

Julie Potter,

Beautiful house in a fantastic location. Very relaxing with lots of extras like hot tub, nespresso machine, 3d TV, sonos sound. Met with a bottle of cava, homemade biscuits and cake as well as a pint of milk so you can have that all important cup of tea when you arrive. Great communication with the owner and the hospitality staff throughout our stay and consideration for our dog who was taken very ill during our stay. Definitely returning so our dog can enjoy watching the birds from the wrap around deck. Even our teenage son enjoyed it!
Tips for other travellers
Due to our dog being ill we only ate out once in the Old George in South Cerney and had lunch at Relish; food was good and staff friendly. Both the chippy and Indian takeaway in South Cerney were very good. The south Cerney water sports place is right next door so we took advantage of it and did some stand up paddling and kayaking which was good fun. Loved the zombie shooting; Andrew and Holly were really lovely and we aim to go back.

Steph Amato,

We had a fabulous time in Jo & Barry's lovely holiday home. They have thought of everything that you would need & more. Looking out onto the lake whilst relaxing in the hot tub! The dogs were never bored watching the ducks. We wouldn't hesitate to come back again.

Jayne Robbins,

Home from home and more. Gorgeous place to stay with everything you need and everything catered for. Lovely hot tub and deck always in the sun with gas BBQ which we enjoyed while we stayed here.
Plenty of things to do, everything from a relaxing spa to high energy activities. We particularly enjoyed all the water sports available within walking distance from the house, the dog walks and visiting local Cotswold towns. The only downside is we wished we had stayed longer.. Went away relaxed and happy from our family time together. Thank you x

Karen Burley,

Thank you to Jo and Barry, we had a fantastic short break at Cotswold Water Park Retreat.. A beautiful house, home from home. So many extras which really make for a lovely stay.. arriving to home made cake, chocolates and prosecco was a lovely suprise and even some dog biscuits for our two spaniels. The house is beautifully clean, tastefully decorated and has all the mod cons.. we loved the sonos sound system, oh and the hot tub!!! Thank you again

Cotswold Water Park Retreat

Theresa de san Croix,

Lovely place to stay, decorated to a high standard, very clean and tidy with little extras such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash etc. The hot tub is a fantastic extra, allowing you to relax with friends and enjoy watching the wildlife on the beautiful lake- whilst listening to music!
Tips for other travellers
We went to 'pick a pot and paint' in Cirencester, about a 10minute drive. It was a lovely activity, with price all to include the pottery and paint and equipment. We also went to the wildlife park which was about half an hour drive. Most of the animals were breathtaking! Really enjoyed walking around all the different areas instead of being stuck in a car behind a window.

Cerys Sayer,

A truly relaxing break. The wildlife visiting the lake mesmerised us, could sit and watch the bird life all day.
Jo & Barry have thought of everything in their holiday home, including the gear for our baby.
Thank you, we had a wonderful first holiday as a family!
The prosecco, biscuits and cake were a lovely touch.

Bobby and Helen,

Fabulous stay at a real home from home with all the modern luxuries you could ask for.
Tips for other travellers
If you have a dog try Cleeve Hill. It is about 40 mins drive but if you want to walk for as long as you like in wide open common land it's well worth it and the views are stunning too.

Julie Payne,

One of the best holidays we have had for a while. So relaxing with the hot tub and lakeside setting.

Jackie Kenny,

Nice to see accommodation where everything has been thought through, lots of nice touch's

Jacks in black jack street , Cirencester for lunch

Caroline Jopling,

We had a lovely time and Jo and Barry were so thoughtful. The house is perfect and has everything you need for your stay.

Hannah,

Such a big beautiful house! So homely and luxurious. I came for my birthday with my boyfriend and my dog. We were greeted with some lovely home made biscuits, a birthday cake, a bottle of prosecco and some doggie mince pies!

The house itself is so lovely, we loved that we could play any song you could think of throughout the whole house. It was also really nice to have a TV in the master bedroom and so many channels and movies downstairs. We appreciated the heating so much as we came in January and we loved the hot tub to warm us up after a day of walking.

Don't worry if you have forgotten something. Barry and Jo have probably already got it at their holiday home! Even had towels to dry the dog after long walks, dishwasher tablets and washing powder for the washing machine!

Amazing place had such a lovely birthday here and my family loved it too when they came over one day. We definitely will becoming back! If you would like a good priced holiday with amazing views, away from all the hustle and bustle but with shops, restaurants and pubs very close by this is the holiday for you!

Connie Breeden,

We have just returned from our wonderful two night stay with friends and our 2 dogs.
I can genuinely recommend The Retreat as a home-from-home break.
Jo and Barry have hit the spot with their attention to detail, providing a holiday home with all the little luxuries that make you feel like you've picked up your house and relocated it. Sonos sound system, Sky, coffee machine and hot tub to name but a few, along with the boutique-style interior make for a very comfortable stay.
Perfect to sit back and relax whilst watching life around the lake. Plenty to do in the local area too with lots of good places to eat and every conceivable activity covered on site and off.

We will hopefully be booking a return trip very soon.

Nicky Roach,

My husband and I have just come back from a fantastic few days in the Cotswolds and what a fabulous time we had! The accommodation was beautiful and was equipped with everything that is needed and more! There was nothing that the owners did not think of.

Upon arrival, the owners were there to greet us and house was immaculate and very welcoming. They were able to show us around and ensured that we had everything that we needed for our stay.

Of course one of the highlights is the hot tub, which is a fantastic feature, as it allows you to take in the relaxing ambience that the Cotswold have to offer!

During our stay we managed to visit all of the local towns, which were in east driving distance and had a lot to offer! We will definitely be visiting again!

Laura Brettle ,

We knew we would love this place as soon as we saw the photos! We stayed here over Christmas and the Cotswolds Water Park Retreat certainly didn't disappoint. Barry & Jo are so welcoming and friendly from the outset and on hand for any of your needs. The house is amazing - spacious and immaculate with fantastic facilities and of course the hot tub - pure luxury! Our timid Doberman was very happy here and settled easily. Located in a great area for walks or a drive out to many local attractions. We hope to stay here again one day, perhaps in the summer where we can put the decking and BBQ to good use! Many thanks Barry & Jo. All the best, Hannah, Dan & Rogue.

Hannah Parkinson,

We have just returned from a much needed weekend without the kids, and have to say this place was fabulous, and our dogs loved it so much they spent most of the time sleeping! We only booked 2 nights - wish we'd booked longer now.

The property is spotlessly clean and offers all of the luxuries from home (wifi, sky tv, dvd player, hot tub) in a property that is easily big enough for the whole family (2 double rooms, 1 twin bed, plus a fold-up bed) Access is really easy, with ramped access to the front door should you need it. Onsite security was nice to see, but not "in your face".

Everything you need is at the property - a fully fitted kitchen, with some nice touches such as coffee machine etc, TV in master bedroom, huge fluffy bath towels etc. The owners have provided it all it would seem. Can't fault them at all - there's even a washing machine if you need one.

We didn't have time to go everywhere that we would have liked, and there are loads of leaflets to help, including books on the local area. Maybe that's one way to get you to go back!

If walking is your thing - we took the dogs, so that's a yes for us - there are dozens of places to walk them within a few minutes drive, but also around the lake that's right outside the property, and I liked that there are poo bins for you to use too dotted around the lake.

Foodwise - South Cerney (5 mins drive) has a few nice pubs, including dog friendly ones - Royal Oak did a nice lunch and have nice beers. There's a huge visitor's centre located over the road from the property that has a cafe inside, and there's a pub/restaurant there too.

Onsite at the park there's a good kids play area (including a fenced off small beach area on the edge of the lake), and also a small football pitch, tennis courts, table tennis etc etc. We didn't try any of these, but they all looked pretty good. Outside the park at some of the other lakes there was fishing, an air rifle range, water skiing, sailing etc so loads to do if that's your thing. It looked as though you can fish the lake at the property too, but don't quote me!

Sorry - seem to have warbled on - in summary, a great place and we'd love to return one day.

THINGS TO BE AWARE OF:
If arriving late at night (ie in darkness) look for the Four Pillars hotel on the left as you head from the A417; the entrance to the park is 200 mtrs after that on the right - we nearly missed it.
Buy wine before you get there, or at least make the effort to read the helpful guide that the owners have left which tells you that Tesco is about 5 minutes away. Failing that, drive 20 miles before accidentally stumbling on said Tesco store (LOL!)
Mobile phone reception (EE) is not great within the property, but seemed to work fine once you move outside; O2 worked a treat.
